Above: The Newaeon Newsletter, Volume II, Number 6, published on the 21st of January 1980 E.V. was dedicated to Clifford "Bud" Burtoft. "Buddy" and I grew up together. He is two years my senior and just as his nickname implies, like a brother to me. However during high school I introduced him to a girl I had a crush on when in grade school, eventually they married, and gradually she turned and then converted him to fundamentalist "Christianity". When Bud, who hadn't read a single book in his life, including the Judeo-Christian Bible, started praising the Lord, Jesusing this and Jesusing that, preaching the Bible to me, who not only read the bloody collection of books but produced a 2,003-page manuscript based in part upon the Greek of the New Testament and the Hebrew of the Old, it pretty much spelled the end of the lifelong friendship. I asked him why he'd converted and he replied: "Well, you never tried to convert me to anything!" I believe I walked away in disgust, never replying: "Of course I didn't. As a friend I accept you for who and what you are and have no desire to change you. If you had expressed an interest in, say, Thelema, I would have answered any questions you had." In my mind the whole time Chapter III, Verse 42, "Success is thy proof: argue not; convert not; talk not overmuch!" and similar verses in The Book of the Law. He had always had trouble recognizing true success.
