PREFACE TO LIBER MDCCLXXVI

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

I sat within my Circle of Art and looked out upon a gloriously sunny day.  My time had become mine again, the bonds of economical slavery loosed from me while I was deprived of all the little luxuries which people have come to believe to be necessities.  Out of the quiet there came an idea and that idea blossomed as a beautiful flower.  There was no choir of angels nor blare of trumpets, just the quiet idea.

No excuse will I make for my plagiarism, if plagiarism it may be called, nor will I seek to excuse what some may call blasphemy and sacrilege.  The reason for this little book is given in the book itself.

My intention was to write a poem, but apparently my Angel had something else in mind.  I bow to the Brilliant Wisdom and Understanding of my Holy Guardian Angel and give to you this little book -

Liber 1776 sub figura 677:  H Alethes Apocalypsis.

Love is the law, love under will.

LIBER MDCCLXXVI

SUB FIGURA DCLXXVII

                     H Alethes Apocalypsis

1.  Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him.

2.  "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, for I am without beginning and end, Akephalon," saith the Lord, mine own Holy Guardian Angel.

3.  I was taken by my Lord into the Spirit on the day of our Prophet's birth.

4.  "What thou seest write thou in a book," mine Angel, my Lord commanded, "and as a sweet kiss of Love and of Hope give it unto the Children of the Prophet, the willful ones of Earth."

5.  Amongst seven generations of humanity there was One like unto the Son of Man and he was surrounded and crowned by the Brilliance from Above; about his middle was the golden girdle of Beauty; his eyes were as flames of fire - fire that burned away falsehood and lies - fire that consumed and destroyed ignorance.

6.  And his feet tread the Path surely, solidly, without fail or falter; and his voice was as the sound of many waters, at times calm and soothing, at times deep, booming and disturbing.

7.  And in his right hand seven Silver Stars, brilliant Gods and Goddesses in their own right; his left was empty for it had crushed an universe; and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword - it was the Sword of Vengeance, the Sword of Our Lord Horus; and his countenance was as the sun that shineth in his strength.

8.  "Fear not," he said.  "I am the first and the last.  I am a man and all of humanity.  I am the Second and the Child of the First."

9.  And he said unto me, "Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter."

10. After this I looked, and behold, a door was opened in heaven; and the voice which I heard was as a trumpet talking with me and it said, "Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which were, things which are, and things which must be hereafter."

11. And I was taken in the spirit before a heavenly throne and One sat on the throne.  That One sat straight and firm, a rainbow round about the throne; and though he lived he seemed like unto emerald while behind him there was a deep darkness, a black almost luminous, which arched over all of existence.

12. About this One were four and twenty seats and upon the seats I saw four and twenty Elders sitting, clothed in white raiment, and They had on Their heads crowns of gold, and upon Their foreheads burned brilliant Silver Stars.

13. Before the Elders there were the four beasts - these were the four races of humankind upon earth.

14. And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and this book was the threefold Book of the Law; and on the backside this great book was sealed with seven seals.

15. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the Book, and to loose the seals thereof?"

16. And No Man in heaven, of the earth, was able to open the Book.  I wept much because No Man was found worthy to open and to read the Book.  Yet there was another in the semblance of a lamb who came forward claiming to be the only one worthy to open that Book and break the seals.  No Man stood between him and that holy book and forbid the sacrilege.  Immediately I saw the lamb change unto the visage of a man, beaten, bloody and dying.  With sorrow filled eyes he claimed that he too was No Man and that only he had the right to break the seven seals and open that Book.  Still he was denied the Book.  Again that visage changed and the look of sorrow left his face to be replaced with a fierce look of hate, a tyrannical glare that spoke of restriction, slavery and sacrifice.

17. And No Man said unto this devil, "Thou art not the Lamb.  Thou art but a cruel mimic, a false phantom, for the Lamb is one of Us and he taught not what you and your kind teach, the gross perversions of the Lamb's sublime words and parables.  Go!  Leave!  Touch not the holy Book of the Law!  This you shall not pervert!"

18. And the false lamb left, banished by No Man, cast away from my sight.

19. And the four beasts said, "Amen."  And the four and twenty Elders came forward and welcomed No Man into Their midst.

20. And I saw when No Man opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, "Come and see."

21. And I saw, and behold a white horse; and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him; and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

22. And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, "Come and see."

23. And there went out another horse that was red; and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another; and there was given unto him a great sword.

24. And again I was beckoned, this time by the third beast, when the third seal was opened.  And I beheld a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.

25. Called to come and see by the fourth beast I witnessed the fourth seal of the holy Book opened.  And I looked, and behold a pale horse; and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.  And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the Beasts of the earth.

26. I turned to No Man who Understandeth these things and asked him to make them clear to my dull mind, and he said unto me, "There are many answers to that one question and I can but give you one in this place.

27. "He that is on the white horse travels the Way of purity.  He is one-pointed and determined never to stray from the Path.  He carries in his hand the Bow of Promise and he is crowned with the Brilliance of his own True Self.  He shall conquer a fourth of the peoples of the earth with his purity, his promise and his brilliance.

28. "He that rides the red horse and was given power to take peace from the earth shall go forth as a warrior and he shall cause strife among the enemies of evolution, the followers of the false lamb and all those of his kind.  With his great sword he shall strike down the followers of the false lamb as well as those who pretend to be of the First One which descendeth from the Abyss; and a fourth of the people will follow him because of his warrior nature.

29. "He that rides the black horse is the lover of Infinite Space and the Infinite Stars therein.  He holds a pair of balances in his hand for it is his duty to bring equilibrium unto a fourth of the peoples of the earth, to cure the unbalanced, and to bring meaning back to the word 'sanity'.  It is his part to Adjust the wrong that has been done by the followers of the false lamb.

30. "And behold him that sitteth upon a pale horse, whose name is Death, followed by Hell.  Unto him is given the power to kill with the sword and with hunger the fourth part of the earth, and to kill also with death and with the Beasts of the earth.  This one called Death is not the end of all nor evil in any sane sense.  He is Transformation.  He raises humanity from the muck and mire of ignorance and by taking them on to the Next Step transforms them into something greater than they are.  They die only in the eyes of the false lamb who no longer has hold over them.  Eternally they live and this they learn from the rider of the pale horse.  Hell follows because it is not evil but rather it is the depths of everyone's soul.  It is the subconscious which is not evil and to be ignored or shun, but rather it is to be raised to the Next Step, united with consciousness so that the Great Transformation may take place.  With the sword of reason he destroys the hold the false lamb has over the people.  With the satisfaction of their hunger to know more beyond what the false lamb allows he breaks the bonds that restrict the people.  The people of the earth die in the eyes of the false lamb so that they may realize their eternal life and with the assistance of the Beasts of the earth, the children of the First One that descendeth from the Abyss, they are led on to the Next Step and the glory which is humankind's future."

31. "Then," I asked of No Man, "there are four who will come to humankind?"

32. And No Man smiled.  "The four are one and the one is naught."

33. My attention was called to the opening of the fifth seal and I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held.

34. And these cried out for mercy asking when they would be freed and it was answered unto them that they would have to wait a little longer for the wrong that imprisoned the world was not yet wholly corrected.

35. And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth, and the moon became as blood; and the stars of heaven fell unto the earth; and the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

36. And the Kings of the Earth, the children of He Who Descended from the Abyss, as well as many another, sought shelter from this horror.  Then did I see the false lamb and he encouraged the Kings of the Earth to meet their doom but was angered to see them quit their shelter and instead repel the destruction that he unleashed upon all the earth, even upon his own followers as well as the Kings.

37. And there was a voice in the void that rang out, "The great day of the Lord's wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?"  And the Kings of the Earth stood firm while the false lamb began to cower and slink away from the sight of their strength and bravery.

38. I beheld the destruction held back by the four beasts who now stood at the four corners of the earth with the Kings in their midst, protecting them from harm, ready to defend them against all danger.  A great multitude, which No Man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before No Man, clothed with white robes, and they denounced the heresies of the false lamb.

39. And I said unto him, "Sir, thou knowest."  And he said to me, "These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the false lamb which they slayeth by their rebellion against the slavery of ignorance which he imposed upon them for many centuries."

40. And when he had opened the seventh seal there was silence in heaven.

41. After a time there came the star called Wormwood and the bitterness within those that followed the false lamb destroyed them unto the last and there was great change, destruction of the perversions of the false lamb which made way for a great construction, a marvelous transformation of the earth as well as all thereon, bringing great glory unto the order of humanity led by the Kings of the Earth who were one with the Beasts of the earth.

42. And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, "Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth who followed the twisted teachings of the false lamb for they have condemned themselves unto death."  Yet with hope the angel also called forth, "Yet death is not the end of all and even these shall come to the Light when they have finally shaken free from the fetters of the false lamb."

43. I saw beyond this time many things, things of terror from beyond.  A star descended from heaven and it unleashed a great hoard of strange creatures that came to enslave humanity.  These were the last and most fearsome adherents of the false lamb and they brought great destruction to the earth, but of this will I say no more as too many words would have to be spoken.  Yet it should be said that they could not prevail, although they posed the greatest threat to the Kings of the Earth and the people that they led.

44. But I must pass on to other things, whether they be past, present or future I cannot be certain.  Perhaps they are, after all, eternal and beyond the false limits of time.

45. There appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars.

46. And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

47. And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

48. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth; and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered for to devour her child as soon as it was born.  And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron; and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

49. I heard many things said, one of which was that this child was he whom we call the false lamb, but this is as false as that one.  I heard that the woman was Isis, her child Horus, and that the dragon was Set, but even this myth, from which the later myth was perverted, was but another perversion of the original which goes back so far that No Man alone can Understand it.

50. The dragon and his angels, it was said, were cast down to the earth and this was but half a truth.  The dragon was not evil, but he opposed the false lamb and his tyrannical father, and the dragon descended to the earth with his holy ones to help humanity come to Understanding and Wisdom.

51. And I stood upon the sand of the Great Sea, and saw the Beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name that the false lamb called blasphemy.

52. And the Beast which I saw was like unto the solar leopard, and his feet were as the strong feet of a bear who treads his Path firmly, and his mouth was of the lion of Sol, commanding and powerful; and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

53. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed for he had survived his upbringing from the depths of the era of restriction; and all the world wondered after the Beast.

54. And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the Beast; and they worshipped the Beast, saying, "Who is like unto the Beast?  Who is able to make war with him?"

55. And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and things which the false lamb and his followers called blasphemy; and power was given unto him to continue for a period of time that we call an aeon.

56. And he opened his mouth against the false lamb and his tyrannical father who would forever enslave humankind if he but had his will.

57. And it was given unto him to make war with the followers of the false lamb, the slave god, and to overcome them; and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

58. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book kept by the false lamb unto whom they had sold their souls.

59. If anyone have an ear, let him hear.

60. He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity; he that killeth by false reason shall be killed by reason.

61. And I beheld another Beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a ram, and he spake as a dragon.

62. And he exerciseth all the power of the first Beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first Beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

63. And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, that is to say that he enflamed the hearts of the people.

64. And he enlightened them that dwell on the earth by the means of those wonders while the followers of the false lamb ranted that he deceived; and he said unto them that they should make an image to the Beast, and in him did they make that image.

65. And he had power to give life unto the image of the Beast, that the image of the Beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not follow or let the Beast and his followers be should be killed.

66. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, to receive a mark in their right hand, or on their foreheads; and that No Man have commerce by virtue of the mark, or the name of the Beast, or the number of his name.

67. Here is Wisdom.  Let him that hath Understanding count the number of the Beast; for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six Hundred Threescore and Six.  This number being the Solar Trinity and the number of that Titan who was called the Father of Mankind.

68. There was great warfare upon the earth, too much to speak of here, but the battle was fought between the followers of the false lamb and the Kings of the Earth and they whom the Kings led, and the Kings of the Earth were in turn led by the second Beast, the image of the Beast 666, who had come up from the earth, who had come from amongst them.

69. I was carried away in the spirit into the wilderness; and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured Beast, full of names considered by the false lamb to be blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.

70. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, the colours of passion and royalty, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of the blood of the saints, those who had given their all to pass beyond the great Abyss to become one of the four and twenty Elders.

71. And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABALON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF TRUTH AND EQUILIBRIUM.  As I read these some evil force began to cloud my mind and cause me to see other than what was so that 'truth' at first appeared to be 'harlots' or 'qliphoth', and 'equilibrium' for a moment appeared to be 'abominations of the earth', which indeed they seemed to be to that force which the false lamb and his destructive father sent to me.

72. And I saw the Scarlet Woman drunken with the blood of the saints; and when I saw her I wondered with great admiration.

73. As I admired the Scarlet Woman who was astride the Beast a voice came unto me and babbled all manner of nonsense to try and destroy my admiration, but I prevailed over the false reason that tried to kill my spirit for I knew that the woman, the Whore of Babalon, was the essence of freedom and liberty and that the Beast was the one who could lead humanity to true life, liberty, love and light.

74. Still the voice, sweet unto sickness, spoke on with false reason, hoping to prey upon my ignorance that absurdities might sound rational and sane, until finally I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

75. His eyes were as a flame of blue fire, and on his head were many crowns to show his attainment; and he had a name written, that No Man knew but Himself.

76. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

77. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations; and he shall rule them with a rod of iron; and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

78. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

79. And I saw the Beast, and the Kings of the Earth, and their hosts, gathered together around him to make war against the followers of the false lamb whose voice tried to deceive me as it tries to deceive all of humankind.

80. And the false lamb was taken, and with him the false prophets that with charlatan's tricks wrought false miracles.  These were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

81. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth.

82. And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the false heaven and the false earth held imprisoned were passed away; and there was no more sorrow.

83. And I, Keallach, witnessed the great wedding feast of the Bride, who was Babalon, and her Groom, No Man, whom I now knew to be the same as the four horsemen as well as him who was called Faithful and True, who is the second Beast come up from the earth, the Child of Our Father the Beast 666.

84. And No Man said unto me, "Behold the future of your world!"  And the sky did open up and there were before me more wonders than I could ever hope to put into words.  I was amazed beyond the bounds of human language.  Even now I am speechless and unable to explain all that which I saw.  But this I can say, the future holds bright promise for those who would defeat the false lamb and his dictatorial father.  For those who would see beyond the pettiness of the little god who would enslave all of us and look beyond to Very God there is a world so fantastic that mere words cannot describe it.

85. "Yet all this," No Man said, "shall also pass.  After our time there will be another aeon of Truth and Justice and She Who Holds the Sword and the Balance will rule as does Our Lord Horus now.  This will be the time of earth's greatest glory as well as earth's eventual descent into the darkness that was before.  Many will pass beyond these realms unto a higher plane, while many others will fall and degenerate so that savages once again roam the world, starting the evolutionary process all over again."

86. He saw that I had tears in my eyes at the thought of all this beauty so hard won eventually decayed and passing into degeneration and death, and he smiled at my sadness.  "There is no sorrow therein.  There is only joy.  For all things that have a beginning must grow old and die, yet remember you that death is only a transformation from one state to another state and that which appears to die will likewise appear to be reborn so that the whole glorious process may start again."

87. And my heart was gladdened and made light; and I attended the wedding of the second Beast and his Bride who was Babalon after which I found myself again in the body and lying within my Circle of Art.  After the proper rubics I walked to my books and took one from amongst them.  The Holy Bible.  I opened it to glance distastefully at the last book therein and read the perversions of the truth that had led so many astray, adding to the ranks of the false lamb who mimicked the initiate who is one of the four and twenty Elders.

88. And I decided not to burn the book for that was the way of the false lamb's followers, but instead I vowed to use that book against these twisters of the truth and by their own words destroy them as well as those of their ranks who pretended to be followers of the Beast so that they may twist and pervert within the ranks of those who would follow the True Will of Very God.

89. And my word is my bond.

90. Let them who have ears listen.  To twist the twisted may be an effort to make straight that which was twisted.  To pervert that which was perverted is an effort to make it truer.  To take the wrong and change it is an attempt to make it right again.

91. I give to you this little book in the name of the Beast, who is, was, and always shall be known to humankind as Aleister Crowley, and in the number of the Beast which is Six Hundred Threescore and Six.

92. When the followers of the false lamb, the slave god, quote their Revelation to dishearten you know that that which was written by John was perverted by his own inability to see clearly and accept all truths as well as by those who followed him and wanted that which gave them their power preserved even at the expense of truth.  When this Revelation is quoted to you, used as a weapon to kill your spirit, look to this little book of mine and know that there is an alternative truth.

93. And from that truth mould the future promised herein, for it is the future that will be if Will is discovered and accomplished; if the Law is remembered:

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

Love is the law, love under will.
